Recent highlights of Norman D. Patzke include his engagement by the Styriarte Baroque Festival Austria to perform the title-role of Adonis in John Blow's Venus and Adonis, a production performed at Schloss Eggenberg Graz, together with the Neue Hofkapelle Graz and Thomas Höft.
Upon invitation by the renowned MAfestival of Bruges (Belgium, 2019) the artist was challenged to appear occasionally as a voice actor, as part of the cast of Pygmalion. A melodrama by the Czech composer G. A. Benda, inspired by the most poetic libretto by F.W. Gotter. The concert performance in Bruges under the baton of Korneel Bernolet, was followed by a cd recording and released the same year on the Ramée label (Outhere Music).Norman D. Patzke was asked to interpret Don Pizarro in Beethoven's Leonore (the 1805 Version of his opera Fidelio) with Opera Lafayette under Ryan Brown, Oriol Tomas directing, with performances in Washington and New-York.
Also noteworthy was the reinvitation by Les Musiciens du Louvre to participate under Marc Minkowski's baton in a CD-recording. A production preceded by a concert tour throughout Europe proposing works by Haendel (Ode for St. Cecilia's Day) and Mozart (C-minor Mass), to be released on the Pentatone label later on in 2020.
Since his first engagements, Norman D. Patzke appeared in roles such as Onegin, Marcello, Faust by Louis Spohr, a part for which the radio magazine “Figaro” edited by MDR called him Star of the evening, Papageno (Magic Flute), Dulcamara (L’Elisir d’Amore), Conte Almaviva (Nozze di Figaro), as in more dramatic character roles such as Kaspar (Freischütz) or Don Pizarro (Fidelio) ; for his debut as Kaspar he got lavish praise in the magazine „Das Opernglas“.
As an opera singer Norman D. Patzke appeared at the Bregenz Festival as Solanio in the world creation of The Merchant of Venice by André Tchaïkowsky and in staged productions of Schumann's Manfred at Opéra Comique Paris (under Emmanuel Krivine) and Haydn’s Creation at ONR Strasbourg. Amongst his other roles : Claudio in Henri Sauguet's Caprices de Marianne (all over France), Danieli in Wagner’s Liebesverbot at ONR Strasbourg, Don Giovanni (title-role) within Glyndebourne touring and Escamillo (Carmen) and Claudio (Béatrice et Bénédict) as cover at the main Glyndebourne Festival.
The artist made himself a name as soloist in In terra Pax by Frank Martin with Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hilversum under Kenneth Montgomery, The Messiah with Ensemble Apotheosis under Korneel Bernolet, the Matthew Passion with Noord-Nederlands Orkest under Michael Hofstetter, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Ensemble Orchestral de Bruxelles (PBA, 2017), two more Matthew Passions, the first throughout Spain next to the Essen Philharmonie, with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski the other one under Michael Hofstetter at the Royal Chapel at the Versailles Castle 2018).
In earlier years Norman already performed in prestigious concert halls as IHamburg State Orchestra at Laeiszhalle, at Comic Opera of Berlin, at deSingel, Antwerp, in Bach’s Magnificat with the Flemish Radio Choir, at Flagey, Brussels, in Mozart’s Requiem andgave his Paris debut at Salle Gaveau, as Jesus in Bach’s Matthew passion. With Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski he first toured with Mozart’s c-Minor Mass and selected Bach Cantatas, including performances Frankfurt, Cracow, Toulouse, Budapest, Lyon, Grenoble and Île de Ré, then participated in Bach's b minor Mass at the renowned Bachfest Köthen.
Since many years Norman is coached by Graham Johnson, with whom he has frequenlty given recitals. His amazing affinity with and talent for the Lied repertoire has frequently been awarded: First Prize at the International „Johannes Brahms“ Competition (Austria), Finalist of the "International singing Competition of Berlin", the "Robert Stolz" competition at Hamburg and the "Concorso Lirico Internazionale Del Mediterraneo" Bari/Italy.
