Pentatone’s exceptional presentation affords Yun the importance and respect his work certainly merits. The commitment of all the performers involved is quite beyond question, but Dennis Russell Davies deserves special praise for conceiving the project in the first place. It will take its place on my shelves alongside CPO’s essential cycle of Yun’s five symphonies, and hopefully will instigate a long-overdue reassessment of this most singular figure.
