KLASSIK reviews Gluck – Orfeo ed Euridice

“This performance of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, led by David Bates, breathes theatre out of every pore and has energy and joyful music-making in abundance.”

”Gluck – Orfeo ed Euridice” performed by Iestyn Davies, Sophie Bevan, Rebecca Bottone and La Nuova Musica with its artistic director David Bates has been reviewed on Klassik.

” It is pure bliss to hear this reading of Gluck’s score, because it is not a mere reproduction, but a courageous, self-conscious interpretation. […] The biggest impression is made by the risks taken. Counter-tenor Iestyn Davies expresses his pain during the first act, after which his vocal transformation to an elegant sound in the second act is all the more effective and moving. […] Sophie Bevan impresses as Euridice with her warm, round soprano. Rebecca Bottonoe presents Amor with child-like naivety, yet brilliantly. […] The agile choir, fluid tempi and joyfully employed effects such as wind and thunder machines fascinate from beginning to end.”
