Four Notes in Pizzicato for Williams’s Flute Concerto

We are delighted to share that the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s album of concert works by John Williams, Bernard Herrmann and Hugo Friedhofer has received four notes in Pizzicato.

In his review, “Works by Film Composers for the Concert Hall,” critic Pál Körtefa notes that Herrmann’s Clarinet Quintet, in the version with string orchestra, and Friedhofer’s Wind Quintet are heard here in first recordings. He says flautist Jin Ta takes on the Williams concerto with “joy and ease,” and that Ma Yue brings out both the dark and the cheerful sides of Herrmann’s quintet. He also praises the esprit of the wind soloists in Friedhofer’s miniatures, and the orchestra’s strings and percussion as a cohesive ensemble under Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan.
