Williams’s Flute Concerto Earns Five Stars in BBC Music Magazine

We are delighted to share that the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s album of concert works by John Williams, Bernard Herrmann and Hugo Friedhofer has received a five-star review in BBC Music Magazine.

Critic Michael Beek singles out Jin Ta’s performance in Williams’s Flute Concerto of 1969, and names Ma Yue’s evocative clarinet as the star of Herrmann’s Souvenirs de Voyage. He also welcomes the world premiere of Friedhofer’s Suite for Five Woodwinds as a fitting footnote to a thoughtfully curated programme, concluding: “Great performances, too, and all ravishingly recorded.”

The album is dedicated to Hans Sørensen, the orchestra’s former head of artistic planning, whose passion for overlooked musical treasures inspired the selection. It includes his arrangement of Herrmann’s clarinet quintet for clarinet and string orchestra.
