RNO: Celebrating 25 years



This year, the Russian National Orchestra celebrates 25 years as one of Russia’s leading ensembles and one of the world’s top orchestras. Since its 1990 Moscow première, the orchestra has been in steadily increasing demand throughout the music world. It was the first Russian orchestra to ever perform at the Vatican and in Israel, and it still maintains a very active international touring schedule under the baton of many important conductors, such as Vladimir JurowskiKent NaganoMikhail PlatnevPaavo Järvi and Carlo Ponti

The RNO’s first recording with PENTATONE was Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and Beintus’s Wolf Tracks, conducted by Kent Nagano and narrated by Mikhail Gorbachev, Sophia Lorenand Bill Clinton. It received a 2004 Grammy Award, making the RNO the first Russian orchestra to win the recording industry’s highest honour.Antonio Banderas gave his voice for the Spanish version of this recording. Big names for a good cause, as each of them has designated a different charity to receive their royalties.
