We’re delighted to share that Yulianna Avdeeva’s new album Metanoia, featuring late works by Franz Liszt, has been named Recording of the Month and BBC Music Magazine Choice in the latest issue of BBC Music Magazine.
Awarding the recording five stars, critic Malcolm Hayes praises Avdeeva’s “phenomenal technique and perceptive account” of Liszt’s late music, describing her approach as one that “mesmerises the ear and the imagination.”
Recorded at the Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana, Metanoia brings together some of Liszt’s most introspective and visionary piano works, including the Sonata in B minor, Nuages gris, Unstern!, Bagatelle sans tonalité, La lugubre gondola II and selections from the Années de pèlerinage.
For Avdeeva, the project is deeply personal. As she explains in her Performer’s Notes, her fascination with Liszt began when she first encountered his music as a teenager, and she has long been drawn to the extraordinary contrasts between light and darkness in his work.
