Vincerò wins the OPER! AWARDS as Best Solo Album 2020

We are proud to announce that our recording of Vincerò! with Piotr Beczala, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and Marco Boemi has been awarded Best Solo Album of the Year 2020 by the OPER! AWARDS. The ceremony was hosted by Editor-in-Chief Ulrich Ruhnke. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony was held without an audience and was broadcast worldwide on the OPER! AWARDS website and social media channels yesterday, November 30th, 2020.

“What a voice! With his solo album Vincerò!, Piotr Beczała – Best Singer of last year’s OPER! AWARDS – again stakes a claim to the throne of tenors. His high notes sound exciting, having become ever more free and assured in recent years, with a beautiful, glistening sob at the right moments. He shines with exemplary technique and well-tempered expression rather than high- pressure emotions in this verismo repertoire. Vincerò! is another successful step towards more dramatic parts in Beczała’s intelligently managed career.”

OPER! AWARDS 2020

“I would like to thank you very much for this award. It means a lot to me. After receiving the “Best Singer of the Year 2019” award and now the prize for “Best Solo Album 2020” fills me with great joy. Vincerò! is my first album in cooperation with PENTATONE and has shown that a motivated team can achieve great things! I would like to thank Marco Boemi and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and also Everett Porter, the wonderful sound engineer, for their great work. This award is for us all!”

Piotr Beczala

Vincerò! is the first fruit of Piotr Beczala’s exclusive collaboration with PENTATONE. The album is a collection of heart-wrenching opera arias by Puccini, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Giordano and Cilea. For Beczala, the recording documents his vocal transition from the lyrical tenor repertoire to the more dramatic roles of Verismo, and thus simultaneously marks a significant new chapter in his stage career.
