We are delighted to share that Yulianna Avdeeva’s Metanoia has been reviewed by Azusa Ueno for The Classic Review.
Ueno finds the B minor Sonata impressive among the many versions available, striking “a sensible balance of power, speed, and musicality.” She praises the tender moments of the first section as “exquisitely rendered with translucent passagework,” and notes that Avdeeva does not rush the Andante. Among the late works, she highlights the starkness of La lugubre gondola II, the “breathtaking tone colors” of Nuages gris, and the threatening edge Avdeeva brings to Hungarian Rhapsody No. 17. She concludes: “All in all, a series of excellent performances that should find a place on the shelf of any Liszt enthusiast.”
Metanoia was released on 28 August and explores Liszt’s path from virtuoso to visionary.
