We are delighted to share that Thomas de Hartmann’s Esther, performed by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Kirill Karabits, has been reviewed in the Spanish magazine Scherzo.
Critic Juan Manuel Viana highlights the “enormous effort” behind the recording, which Karabits prepared from the original manuscripts. He praises the splendid orchestra and a formidable chorus with ample opportunities to shine. He describes Corinne Winters as a seductive Esther with remarkable diction, and Yuriy Yurchuk as an imposing Assuérus, both fearsome and benevolent. He also singles out the well-matched supporting cast: Andrew Foster-Williams, Paul Appleby, Olga Bezsmertna, Edwin Crossley-Mercer and Bernard Richter. Viana concludes: “The result is an outstanding production.”
Composed in Garches, near Paris, during the German occupation, Esther is the latest instalment of the Thomas de Hartmann Project. The recording is released as a 2-CD set and digitally on all platforms.
