Initially designed as the slow movement of the “Waldstein” Sonata but later replaced, the Andante favori eventually found its way to the salons where Beethoven performed it himself, and the nickname “favori” underlines its huge popularity in that environment. Pianist Mari Kodama is one of the most exceptional Beethoven interpreters of her generation, and plays this gem with poetry and elegance.
