WHEN BACH MEETS THE HARP
With Alpenbach, artistic creator and composer Alexander Boldachev offers a transcendent exploration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music. Through four visionary transcriptions for solo harp, the album reimagines Bach’s works through the distinctive voice of the instrument.
Carefully preserving the musical integrity of the original works, Boldachev reveals the harp’s full expressive range, elevating it from a traditionally ornamental instrument into a voice of clarity, intimacy, and power. Recorded in the serene mountain chapel of Aiglon College in Switzerland, Alpenbach becomes both sanctuary and statement.
The album invites the listener into a space of stillness and reflection — a soundtrack for meditation, focused work, or simply being. Rather than simply interpreting Bach, Boldachev inhabits the music, revealing its spiritual depth through a singular instrumental perspective.
Alexander Boldachev is a classical-crossover virtuoso harpist, composer, initiator of World Harp Day in Hong Kong, founder of the Zurich Harp Festival, Harp Faculty at Azusa Pacific University and visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Milan Conservatory. Across 30 years on stage, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, collaborated with Robbie Williams for the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony, and appeared at festivals ranging from Burning Man in the USA to the Verbier Festival in Switzerland.
