The latest batch of reviews in Gramophone Magazine includes an Editor’s Choice for Dvořák: Slavonic Dances with Czech Philharmonic & maestro Sir Simon Rattle. In the November issue, Gramophone wrote:
“What a joy this is – every turn of phrase, every inflection, every infectious rhythm so completely inbred. Effortless. […] The Czech Philharmonic are indeed the warmest and most welcoming of ensembles: the strings truly sing whether in wistful repose or in up-tempo jubilance; the wind choir, now gentle, now rollocking, sound completely individual. There is nothing remotely ‘generalised’ about anything they do. Not a single bar of this music is taken for granted.”
To close the review, Gramophone wrote “A terrific album, then, delivering music of bountiful generosity and geniality but lifting it out of all familiarity with imagination and panache.” Read the full review here.
This accolade marks another major recognition for the collaboration between Sir Simon Rattle and the Czech Philharmonic, following widespread critical acclaim for their recent recordings.
