Gramophone’s esteemed critics have chosen their top recordings for 2025. Included in the short list is pianist Denis Kozhukhin’s beautiful album ‘Somnia’ and Miró Quartet’s ‘Ginastera: String Quartets’.
The critics wrote:
Somnia: “These vignettes may be ‘child’s play’ for a virtuoso but Kozhukhin delivers them without condescension, poignantly communicating their open-hearted inspiration […] Kozhukhin applies his lapidary pianism to music that juxtaposes winsome naivety and twinkle-eyed mischief”
Ginastera: String Quartets: “Celebrating 30 years together, the Miró approach Ginastera’s three string quartets with a rapport formed since their student days – and it shows. Folk vitality and modernist rigour are fused with striking assurance, Kiera Duffy’s incisive soprano completing a performance of expressionist intensity. A welcome, overdue addition to the quartet literature.”
