We are delighted to share that Ben Goldscheider’s Mozart Horn Concertos, recorded with the Münchener Kammerorchester, has received five notes in Pizzicato.
Critic Uwe Krusch describes the album as an elegant overview of the four concertos. He praises Goldscheider’s easy command of the technical details and a supple tone that avoids the clatter of hunting-horn playing, approaching the solos with “luminous and elegant charm.” Krusch says this opens the repertoire to listeners who might otherwise be put off by its martial timbre. He also highlights the lyrical slow movement of the Second Concerto and the Fourth Concerto’s technical demands, which are not apparent in Goldscheider’s playing. He adds that the Münchener Kammerorchester is classically balanced while remaining an independent partner alongside the soloist.
Released on 2 October, the album marks Ben Goldscheider’s PENTATONE debut and brings together all four of Mozart’s horn concertos, with cadenzas and lead-ins by Andreas Staier.
