Five Stars in Diapason for Avdeeva’s Metanoia

We are delighted to share that Yulianna Avdeeva’s Metanoia has received a five-star review from Melissa Khong in Diapason.

Khong describes a “refined palette” and a surprising intimacy, with Avdeeva playing Horowitz’s personal Steinway at the Tippet Rise Art Center. Her interpretation “eschews grandstanding,” and the slow-burning narrative works wonders in the darkest pages of late Liszt, including “a deeply moving La lugubre gondola.” Khong concludes that “the integrity of the approach never stifles the composer’s distinctive voice; on the contrary, it reveals the artist’s teeming imagination through the exquisite craftsmanship of tone, articulation, and phrasing.”

Metanoia was released on 28 August and pairs the Sonata in B minor with Liszt’s late works.
