We are delighted to share that Yulianna Avdeeva’s Metanoia has been reviewed by Colin Clarke for Classical Explorer. He calls it a remarkable and carefully thought-through disc, with performances of such intense musicality that “it feels as if we are in an earlier, Golden Age of pianism.”
Clarke praises Avdeeva’s astonishing technique and the intelligence with which she layers Liszt’s textures. He also welcomes her decision to place the B minor Sonata first, so the listener hears the progression from the early work to the late pieces. He compares her Sonata with Pollini’s, finding it as intelligent but with a soul that is easier to pinpoint.
Metanoia was released on 28 August. It explores Liszt’s transformation from virtuoso to visionary through his late piano works, alongside the Sonata in B minor.
