Charlotte Hu’s ‘Goyescas’ receives top rating from Diapason

Charlotte Hu’s Goyescas has earned five diapasons, the magazine’s top rating, in the French magazine Diapason, in a review by Bertrand Boissard.

Boissard describes an interpretation in which tragic phantasmagoria and incandescent passion intertwine in an infinitely colourful choreography. He praises the rich sound of Coloquio en la Reja, the clarity and rhythmic precision of El Fandango del Candil, and the sensitivity and flexibility of her phrasing in Quejas, o la Maja y el Ruiseñor. He also highlights the dramatic sweep of El Amor y la Muerte, the high point of the cycle, and calls the album an exceptionally attractive alternative to existing recordings by Perianes and de Larrocha. Of the two Danzas españolas she adds as encores, he singles out the spirited energy of the Andaluza and the restrained, inner tremor of the Orientale, glowing from within like an opal.

Goyescas was released on 5 June and pairs Granados’s complete Goyescas suite with these two Danzas españolas.
