We are delighted to share that Yulianna Avdeeva’s Metanoia has been reviewed by David Fanning in the October 2026 issue of Gramophone.
Fanning writes that Avdeeva’s late pieces receive “precisely the quiet, unwavering concentration they demand,” and that when the virtuoso Liszt returns to the spotlight, as in the Bagatelle sans tonalité, “she is equally in her element.” Her reading of the Sonata is “not disfigured by wilful attempts at originality,” with exceptional clarity thanks to her “sensitive, judicious pedalling.” He advises readers to look elsewhere for more barnstorming accounts, but to “return to her for one of the more satisfying ones, placed in a thought-provoking context.” He also praises her booklet essay, “as direct and open-hearted as her playing.”
Metanoia was recorded at the Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana and released on 28 August.
