The Violin Channel has featured mandolinist Alon Sariel on the release of Plucked Bach III, the final installment in his acclaimed Bach cycle for Pentatone, with Sariel telling the outlet that these never fail to inspire me, referring to the rich world of plucked instruments at the heart of the project.
The feature highlights the album’s new additions to Sariel’s instrumental palette, including the Ottoman bağlama and a rare Tuscan-type mandola, which lends a dark resonance to Bach’s Third Cello Suite. Sariel also reflects on recording the album in dynamic performance spaces, recalling that playing the opening of Bach’s Chaconne for the first time in the hall turned out to be exquisite, despite not knowing the acoustics beforehand.
Sariel adds that he hopes the album offers listeners a sense of peace and serenity in what he calls a restless world.
