February’s Personal Pick of the Month with Alice Lombardo

For February’s Personal Pick of the Month, our fearless Operations and A&R Coordinator Alice Lombardo selected the recently released Symbiosis: Tribute to Bill Evans:

This time around my personal pick of the month necessarily had to be Symbiosis: Tribute to Bill Evans by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Thomas Clausen Trio and Jean Thorel.

As a Bill Evans freak, releasing an album with his name attached to it on PENTATONE feels like being one degree of separation closer to him and his genius. I have been listening on repeat since the first time we received the master already one year ago – perks of the job – and I have been feeling like the protagonist of a black and white movie ever since. I close my eyes during the Bill Evans Suite and I see myself on a Sunday at the Village Vanguard, after a long walk in Central Park to Waltz for Debby. Rhythm changes in Thomas Clausen’s For Pi, that echoes Piece Peace, enhancing its lushy melancholy. And what to say about the reconstruction of Symbiosis by Ding Jian Han and Hans Sørensen if not: affectionate and masterful. You just have to close your eyes and start listening.

A special thank you to our beloved Singapore Symphony Orchestra for bringing this recording to life and for gifting it to all of us.
