Ana Milovanović, PENTATONE’s Product Manager shares her thoughts on Mozart & Shostakovich: Concertos for Piano and Strings & Piano Sonata with Saskia Giorgini, Per Ivarsson & Trondheim Soloists.
“I always look forward with special joy to that first moment of listening to an album we’re working on with Saskia Giorgini. Her talent and approach to every piece we’ve released so far are absolutely remarkable and truly admirable. This album has once again fully met all my personal expectations. The collaboration between Saskia and the Trondheim Soloists feels wonderfully harmonious, especially considering that the original idea was to bring together Mozart and Shostakovich – two very different composers and representatives of distinct musical eras.
In Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A Major, K. 414, the tone is gentle, soft, and exquisitely precise. Every touch sounds tender and lyrical, yet remains entirely faithful to Mozart’s clarity and balance. In this performance, the concerto feels intimate, chamber-like, and delicately shaped.
In contrast to that intimacy and softness, Shostakovich brings restlessness, irony, and a completely different energy that keeps us in suspense. With Saskia’s masterful playing, an hour and seventeen minutes pass almost unnoticed, while the music continuously holds our full attention.
Beyond the masterful performance itself, I believe the product design perfectly captures everything this album represents – free yet personal, distinctive yet true to its own style, and crafted with great attention to detail. My warm recommendation!”
Mozart & Shostakovich: Concertos for Piano and Strings & Piano Sonata is released on 28th November 2025.
