Press release: June releases. PENTATONE presents two remarkable new recordings.
Baarn, The Netherlands, 3 June 2015. PENTATONE, the classical music label specialising in high-end surround sound recordings, releases two albums featuring outstanding artists and captivating repertoire.
June ushers in the highly anticipated release of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Op. 64 and the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto, Op. 35, performed by the renowned violinist Arabella Steinbacher and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under the baton of Maestro Charles Dutoit. After many years of living with and performing these masterpieces, Arabella Steinbacher has finally decided to record them. Consequently, this album offers listeners the opportunity to hear two exceptional gems of the violin repertoire, performed by one of the most outstanding violinists of her generation.
The warm yet clear sound of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, under the masterful direction of Charles Dutoit, provides the soloist intense support as well as flexibility. According to Klassieke Zaken magazine, the work “[g]radually develops a wonderful dialogue between violin and orchestra, full of brilliant shades”. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
The second release of the month is a continuation of the fruitful collaboration between PENTATONE and Marek Janowski, who on this occasion conducts his own Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin. Janowski, an eminent conductor and acclaimed representative of the great German tradition, chose to record Strauss’s Symphonia Domestica, Op. 53 and Die Tageszeiten, Op. 76, for male chorus and orchestra, thus revealing to the listener some of the lesser-known works by Strauss. It is a double revelation in that the fascinating mastery of Strauss’ orchestration is brought out exceptionally well by this high-end surround sound recording.
PENTATONE is a Dutch classical music label specialising in high-end, multichannel surround sound recordings. It was founded in 2001 by three former Philips Classics executives. PENTATONE’s catalogue includes performances by conductors Kent Nagano, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Paavo Järvi, Charles Dutoit, Sir Neville Marriner, Mikhail Pletnev, Sir Colin Davis, Vladimir Jurowski, and Lawrence Foster; artists Joyce DiDonato, Julia Fischer, Johannes Moser, Jake Heggie, Mari Kodama, Nareh Arghamanyan, Martin Helmchen; and orchestras such as the Russian National Orchestra, the Wiener Symphoniker, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the New Dutch Academy and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
