Press Release: The legend continues, new titles from PENTATONE's Remastered Classics

Baarn, the Netherlands, 2 March 2015.  Today, multichannel Dutch label PENTATONE continued their launch of the Remastered Classics series. Given that PENTATONE is well known for its dedication to supreme quality multichannel recordings, Deutsche Grammofon - the original producers of the series - entrusted PENTATONE with the task of remastering and releasing the 1970s quadraphonic recordings on SACD.

The first five titles that were released in November 2014 have received critical acclaim from audiophiles and prominent classical music press alike. Barry Forshaw of CD Choice UK claims, “What a luxury in the 21st-century to hear these discs, not only as they were originally intended, but clearly sounding better on SACD than they would have done when originally recorded, given the technological limitations of the long-playing record.”

The second batch of this series highlights the phenomenal realisation of Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and La Damnation de Faust, Georges Bizet’s Carmen and Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha. The recordings accentuate the performance of conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Pinchas Zukerman, Leonard Bernstein, Christoph Eschenbach and Claudio Abbado, and orchestras as the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and Berliner Philharmoniker.  Some of the titles are re-released with complete libretto in both French and English, AND original photos from the MET’s archives.

This is the quality they deserved more than 30 years ago,” said Dirk van Dijk, one of PENTATONE’s co‑founders and an initiator of the project. “We are thrilled that music lovers can finally listen to these precious recordings in the way the artists, original engineers and producers wanted,” van Dijk added.

The winner of the 2013 BBC Music Magazine ‘Technical Excellence Award’ for Parsifal from the Wagner Edition, PENTATONE solidifies its reputation with the releases of the complete Wagner Operas with conductor Marek Janowski and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, continuing the Shostakovich series with Symphony No. 7 featuring Paavo Järvi and the Russian National Orchestra and the complete Bruckner symphonies with  Marek Janowski and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
